PROJECT FATHERHOOD
CNVEP is proud to announce Project Fatherhood! Thanks to a generous grant from Children's Institute, Inc., we have recently launched this wonderful new program. At the core of the program is the weekly Fathers Support Group, which participating dads call "extremely helpful" and "the only place where I can really speak my mind."
In addition to the support group, the children will experience our exemplary children's group, where they will play, create art, and learn about nonviolence through the modeling and storytelling of our talented staff. A concurrent support group comprised of other significant adults in those children's lives will also meet to help these kids get all the best loving care possible.
Each of these groups will be meeting every Saturday, at 9am in English and at 9am in Spanish. A big welcome goes out to our two new Project Fatherhood staff, Project Manager Veronica Ruiz and Group Leader Marino Aragon.
We don't agree with the oft-held notions that fathers are unwilling or unable to participate in rasing their children. But parenting classes don't always address issues that are unique to fathers. Helping fathers stay engaged in their children's lives requires more than their physical presence, and Project Fatherhood will do more than simply address the problem of father absenteeism. Participation in the group increases the emotional literacy and emotional intelligence of the fathers, who in turn can model that fluency with their children, giving them a priceless gift of early emotional competency.
So if you're a dad, please come participate! If you're not a father, tell all the fathers you know to come and experience Project Fatherhood on a Saturday morning. It's a chance to get some great support and to do the work necessary to become the kind of father they'd really like to be.
