Domestic Violence Shelter Staff

CNVEP is committed to work alongside the Domestic Violence Shelter community to act as a resource in teaching nonviolent Philosophy and Practice and be an ally in breaking the cycle of domestic violence, one family at a time.

CNVEP recognizes the inordinate challenge this places on families with a history of domestic violence, particularly on mothers surviving the trauma of abuse. The philosophy and practice of nonviolent child raising holds hope for distressed mothers in shelters with tools to create or recreate a family free from abuse and anchor the family in mutual respect, understanding, honest communication, trust and caring. Nonviolent parenting provides our mothers in crisis with reassurance that she is capable of compassion toward herself while caring for and guiding her child from trauma to healing.

Our Staff Training and Development equips your domestic violence shelter staff with the philosophy and tools to impart nonviolent child raising to parent survivors living in emergency or transitional shelters allowing your agency to be self reliant on teaching your clients how to interact with their children nonviolently. In addition to our staff trainings, we offer Parenting Classes. All our classes can be tailored to fit your shelter’s needs and can be held at your site or at CNVEP. Training Details:

Domestic violence shelter staff members at each of the trainings will:

• Gain knowledge of the philosophy and tools used in nonviolent child raising Support mothers in building a sense of safety within the family and breaking the cycle of violence Strengthen their understanding of child development Gain an understanding of the philosophy behind support group facilitation and acquire skills for effective facilitation Learn how to work with parents within the context of their immediate environment (e.g. Emergency Shelter, Transitional Shelter) Support mothers in building strong bonds with their children in order to protect and communicate with them in a time of stress Give mothers tools to cope with their children’s emotional pain and distress
• Deepen their understanding of crisis and the feelings associated (e.g. denial, fear, shame, trauma, anger, grief, depression) to foster self awareness and emotional competency among parents

Our services are available in English and Spanish.

Workshops for Teachers

CNVEP offers workshops for centering teachers in the practice of nonviolent child raising. We teach professionals the Philosophy and Practice of nonviolent child raising to better communicate with students nonviolently. Workshops offer topics specific to teacher needs such as strategies for classroom management, assessing vs. meeting the needs of students, enhancing the optimum state of learning for students.

Family Mental Health Through the Lens of Nonviolence
Training for Mental Health Professionals - Six CEU's

Understanding the the myriad challenges that families are facing helps professionals provide effective and meaningful support. Based on the research about attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, trauma informed care and social and emotional intelligence, this workshop lead by Ruth Beaglehole, M.A. and Stephanie Blank, L.C.S.W. will introduce mental health professionals to a new paradigm for assessment, diagnosis and treatment of children and families.

Contents include:
* Reframing challenging behaviors in children as strategies for meeting needs.
* Re-contextualising difficult behaviors within the framework of brain development.
* Managing parental stress through a practice of self-regulation.
* Exploring tools for helping families navigate through power struggles and conflict.

Who Should Attend:
All interested mental health professionals are welcome. CNVEP is approved by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences to provide continuing education credits for LCSW's and/or MFT's. Provider# PCE 4426
